WHAT IS CLASSICAL PILATES?
Joseph Pilates was a German-born man who invented a series of exercises he initially termed “Contrology”. Specialized equipment was developed to perform many of the exercises, and they were done in a specific sequence, with precise goals in mind. Over time, these exercises began being referred to as simply “Pilates”, and have taken a variety of forms over the years. Some styles of Pilates training have taken inspiration from other movement forms such as yoga, boxing, physical therapy, and general aerobic exercise to influence their Pilates programming. By contrast, the Classical Pilates method adheres closely to Joseph Pilates’ original exercises, sequence of movement, and equipment. We believe that this traditional repertoire provides a depth of work to the body that allows for results superior to other styles of Pilates. We invite you to come experience the benefits in your own body!
